Allergic Rhinitis is very common in severe and uncontrolled asthma. In this study we assessed the
impact of allergic rhinitis on Asthma control. This is a cross-sectional study; including fifty patients
with asthma, admitted in our Department of Pneumology; between February and March 2019. fifty
percent of these cases had an associated allergic rhinitis.15% had an allergic conjunctivitis.2.2%
had an allergic dermatitis.3% had urticarial.
As regards with comorbidities; 10% of our patients had associated cardiac disease; Diabetes
mellitus (30%); Hypertension (20%) and Bronchiectasis (40%).Asthma was classified as severe in 60
% of cases, moderate (20%) and mild (20%). It was uncontrolled in 80% of these cases.A high
correlation was found between allergic rhinitis and Asthma control (p=0.018). Therefore, they
received more treatments (p=0.02).
To conclude; High priority should be given to the management of patients with both asthma and
allergic rhinitis
